Denard Span, Adam LaRoche out: Nationals-Phillies lineups

Katherine Frey/TWP

Denard Span is out the lineup a day after fouling a ball off his right foot for the third time this season. Jeff Kobernus is leading off and playing center field is his place. Anthony Rendon, for the third straight game, is hitting second in the lineup.

Old friend John Lannan starts for the Phillies. Jayson Werth is 8 for 24 with four homers, two doubles and four walks against Lannan. Chris Marrero is starting at first base, likely a move to rest Adam LaRoche and because he, and the Nationals as a whole, have struggled against left-handed pitching.

The Nationals are hitting a major league worst .212 against left-handers and LaRoche, after hitting .268 off them last year, is hitting .213 off them this season. LaRoche is also 0 for his last 15.
