Adam LaRoche out with the flu

Adam LaRoche is out of Friday’s lineup, the first game back from the all-star break, with the flu. LaRoche said he felt “terrible” and, according to Manager Davey Johnson, the first baseman looked that way during Thursday’s team workout.

LaRoche said he hoped to feel better in a day or two. He was at Nationals Park to visit with the team’s doctor and would remain away from the team, Johnson said. In LaRoche’s stead, Chad Tracy will hit seventh and start at first base.

“I hope he gets well quick,” Johnson said. “… I’m hoping for tomorrow.”

LaRoche had started the past seven games and has played in 90 of the Nationals’ 95 games.
