Today’s Nationals-Tigers lineups

Anthony Rendon (Tony Dejak/AP)

The Nationals find themselves in the common position of trying to bounce back from a loss. They’ll turn to Gio Gonzalez in a fantastic matinee pitching match-up against Justin Verlander.

Ryan Zimmerman will get a day to rest as the DH. In six career games as a DH, Zimmerman is 2 for 25 with a walk. Denard Span returns to the top of the lineup — he’s 15 for 42 in his career against Verlander during their time facing each other in the AL Central. Anthony Rendon will play third base, with Steve Lombardozzi taking over at second.
