Bryce Harper sitting: Nationals-Giants lineups

(Alex Brandon /AP) Scott Hairston (Alex Brandon /AP)

The Nationals will begin their three-game series against the Giants with Bryce Harper on the bench against left-handed Madison Bumgarner. Harper has hit .172/.270/.276 against left-handed pitchers this year. Plus, Manager Davey Johnson generally likes to give his regulars a day off either before or after an off day to allow for extra rest. We’ll see later if there’s any other reason for Harper being out of the lineup. Scott Hairston is starting in left.

UPDATE, 6:25 p.m.: Marco Scutaro was scratched with a stiff back. Joaquin Arias replaces him. The lineup is updated below.
