Tonight’s Nationals-Royals lineups

The Nationals will face the Royals tonight for the first time since the franchise moved to Washington in 2005. Ian Desmond will return after he missed the past two games with back soreness, and Jayson Werth will serve as the Nationals’ designated hitter as they begin their final series of the year in an American League park.

The Royals have a few old Nationals in their lineup — Justin Maxwell, Jamey Carroll and Emilio Bonifacio — to face Gio Gonzalez.
