Denard Span day-to-day with groin tightness

Denard Span is day-to-day with tightness in his right groin, an issue has been dealing with since earlier this week in Philadelphia. The groin tightness sidelined Span for the Nationals’ 7-0 loss to the Marlins tonight. Manager Davey Johnson said it’s “iffy” whether Span will play tomorrow.

“Who knows?” Span said. “I’ll see how I feel when I get here tomorrow. I’ll wake up tomorrow and get here and get some treatment and get moving around. If I feel like I can go, I’m definitely going to put myself in the lineup.”

After the Nationals’  loss, Span said he felt “all right.” He attempted to play tonight, but the issue that had bothered him Philadelphia came back in a worse way.

“The last couple days, it really say much,” Span said. “I got here today, tried to get loose, tried to go on the field for BP. Just couldn’t get it going.”

Span has been one of the Nationals’ best hitters lately. During a 17-game hitting streak, Span has gone 28 for 69 with five walks and six extra-base hits.
