Today’s Nationals-Cardinals lineups

(Alex Brandon/AP)

The Cardinals have beaten the Nationals in all five meetings this season, which makes their winning streak over the Nats six counting Game 5. Jordan Zimmermann will try to change that as he goes for his 20th win. All of those reasons convinced Manager Davey Johnson to again play his regular lineup, even in a day game after a night game, with the team eliminated from playoff contention.

“These guys knocked us out of the playoffs, and they’re in a pennant race, we’re 0-5 against them this year — I’m putting my best foot forward,” Johnson said. “We need to send them a message they can’t just walk over us.”
