During the Nationals’ workout today, there was a buzz in the air. That is not a clichéd observation about Matt Williams’s effect on camp. A small drone, equipped with a camera, was flying overhead.

This wasn’t any spying effort from a Grapefruit League rival. Team photographers were gathering material to be shown on the video board at Nationals Park, and the drone enabled them to film from a different perspective. And so the small robot – really, a remote control plane – hummed through the practice. During batting practice at Space Coast Stadium, hitters and coaches kept looking up at it.

“Technology is crazy,” Stephen Strasburg said. “I guess you can down to the hobby store and get one yourself.”

Strasburg, through, had no plans to go buy one. “I’d lose it in a tree,” he said.
