The Nationals make their annual spring trip to the west coast of Florida on Monday and face the New York Yankees in Tampa at George M. Steinbrenner Field, one of the largest spring training stadiums. The bus ride each way is two and half hours.

Ross Detwiler, who is healthy after missing much of last season with oblique and back injuries, is making is first start of the spring. He is the incumbent for the fifth spot in the rotation, which he is hoping to earn over Tanner Roark and Taylor Jordan. Detwiler is expected to throw two innings, while Roark is slated to throw the two innings following him. Derek Jeter, who is retiring after the 2014 season, is starting for the Yankees, as is Brian McCann, a familiar face from his days with the Atlanta Braves.

Denard Span, who lives in Tampa and got to spend a night at home after Sunday’s game, is starting and playing in a lineup comprised mostly of backups and players fighting to make an impression.

The game will air live at 1 p.m. on MLB Network.
