Stephen Strasburg is making his last start before opening day this afternoon. He will face the Mets, the same opponent he’ll confront March 31 in New York. Manager Matt Williams did not expect Strasburg to veer from his usual approach in an effort to keep something hidden from them.
“I don’t think so,” Williams said. “It may affect the way he’s thinking about it. The schedule is the schedule. There’s not much we can do about it other than play it out. We could send him over on a minor league-type situation. He doesn’t need to do that. He needs to pitch. He hasn’t said anything to me about changing things up. Now, if he decides to do that, that’s up to him. Right now, it’s about getting his innings and getting him prepared.”
Strasburg should pitch five innings, Williams said, but if he keeps his pitch count low he might throw a sixth. The game is being broadcast live on MASN, and you really don’t matter THAT much to your workplace, so you can watch it.
