Denard Span played his second minor league rehab game on Friday night with Class A Hagerstown and is expected back with the Nationals on Saturday, the first day he is eligible to come off the seven-day concussion disabled list.

Span felt fine after playing three innings in center field on Friday. He went 1 for 2 with an RBI and a walk. He played five innings Thursday and went 1 for 2 with an RBI, two walks and three runs scored.

Span suffered a mild concussion on Friday when he collided with Atlanta’s Dan Uggla while rounding first base after a go-ahead single in the eighth inning. Span missed nearly half the 2011 season when he suffered a concussion.

“He’s all good to go,” Nationals Manager Matt Williams said after Friday night’s 3-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. “He’s going to come back here [Friday night] and we’ll evaluate [Saturday]. He was good [Friday].”

The Nationals called up outfield prospect Steven Souza Jr. from Class AAA Syracuse when Span went on the DL. Souza could be a candidate to be sent down once Span is activated.

James Wagner joined the Post in August 2010, wrote about high school sports across the region for two years and has covered the Nationals since the middle of the 2012 season.
