For the fourth straight day, Ryan Zimmerman is taking early fly balls in left. This is a thing. Zimmerman also threw a couple short tosses, which would seem to be a good sign for the state of his broken right thumb. Zimmerman was scheduled to get another check-up X-ray this afternoon, and the Nationals were optimistic those results would allow Zimmerman to start a strengthening program.

Meanwhile, Greg Dobbs will get his first start as a Nationals. Matt Williams is getting another lefty into a lineup that has been hurting against right-handed starters. Joey Votto, nursing a knee injury, is out of the Reds’ lineup.
