Nationals minor league pitchers Taylor Jordan and Matt Purke both suffered injuries, with Jordan leaving a Class AAA Syracuse start Tuesday afternoon after three innings and Purke landing on the disabled list at Class AA Harrisburg.

A Nationals official said the team is “currently gathering information and assessing both pitchers.”

Jordan, a member of the Nationals’ opening day rotation, allowed two runs in three innings and felt soreness in his arm. Syracuse’s bullpen hurriedly sprung to action, and Jordan exited the game.

The Nationals demoted Jordan to Syracuse on April 29 after he went 0-3 with a 5.61 ERA in five starts, throwing his fastball with diminished velocity. Jordan recaptured his mechanics after he took nearly two weeks off. In two starts before Tuesday, he allowed one run in 11 innings, and his fastball bounced back to 94 mph.

“It didn’t go too well for me when I was” in the majors, Jordan told “I need to start working on some things,” Jordan said. “I’m happy I can do that here. It’s a little bit of a less stressful environment. [Washington wants] to win. They don’t want to see me working on stuff. I can’t be out there against the Braves working on my mechanics.”

Purke had struggled in his second season at Class AA Harrisburg. Sunday, he allowed four runs on eight hits over four innings. In eight starts, Purke has an 8.04 ERA with 18 walks and 22 strikeouts over 31 1/3 innings.

The Nationals drafted Purke in 2011 and signed him to a major league contract worth roughly $4 million. By virtue of that deal, Purke is on the Nationals’ 40-man roster.
