Nationals Manager Matt Williams said after Sunday’s game that he wanted to get a day off for Ian Desmond and Jayson Werth, but it won’t be Monday. Desmond and Werth are in the lineup. The Nationals are using their standard lineup against right-hander Matt Garza. Gio Gonzalez is making his second start since coming off the disabled list.

Before the game at Miller Park, Ryan Zimmerman took grounders at third base, making easy and comfortable throws to first base. He threw the ball overhand and from a three-quarters arm slot. He then fielded grounders in left field, playing balls bouncing around in the left field corner.

The grounders at third are significant because it means the Nationals are indeed serious about playing Zimmerman back at his old position when Bryce Harper returns. Harper is slated to play his first rehab game on Monday night at Class A Potomac and July 1 is his targeted return date.
