Nationals-Cubs discussion thread: Game 81

Blake Treinen. (Stan Liu-USA TODAY Sports)

After the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader, the Nationals will have reached the midpoint of the season. At the midpoint last season, the Nationals were 41-40. Entering Saturday night’s game, the Nationals are 42-38, guaranteeing they will at least finish one game better through last year’s record at this point. Blake Treinen takes the mound in the spot start, called up from Class AAA Syracuse thanks to the 26th man rule for doubleheaders. Despite a 2.08 ERA over 30 1/3 innings in the major leagues, Treinen has an 0-3 record. One of the best right-handers in the National League, Jeff Samardzija (2-6, 2.53 ERA) starts for the Cubs. The lineups are here. As always, discuss the game below.
