VIERA, Fla. — If you watched SportsCenter Tuesday morning, you might remember seeing Anthony Rendon featured on the “Top Plays” segment. His diving stop Monday against the Braves — which required a leap and significant airtime before a landing on the Space Coast Stadium infield — was ranked as the No. 3 play of the day, in conjunction with Ryan Zimmerman’s stellar scoop on the throw that followed.

Rendon’s left knee took a hit on the play, one that is causing it to swell. The swelling was enough Wednesday morning that Manager Matt Williams opted to scratch his third baseman from the lineup that will face the Detroit Tigers’ David Price at 1 p.m. Rendon was scheduled to lead off and play third.

“He worked through his day yesterday, but he’s a little bit sore,” Williams said. “On the inside of is knee, he took a pretty hard dive out there. The infields are hard. No issues other than a bruise. Good to go in a day or so.”

Kevin Frandsen will play third Wednesday.
