After my colleagues Paul Farhi’s rant that “haters” would be more amenable to figure skating if they didn’t wear costumes, it begged the question: Just who are these “haters?”

A Washington Post-ABC news poll found that pretty much everyone likes figure skating. All those guys  who mock sparkly costumes and proclaim the sport is silly? Three out of five of them might be lying. Turns out, according to the poll, 62 percent of men have a favorable impression of the winter sport. Women do like the sport more – 82 percent have a favorable view.

Men do prefer hockey and downhill skiing a little more, but not significantly. Seven out of ten men have a favorable impression of hockey; 66 percent have of downhill skiing.

So there you have it: Dudes actually like figure skating. So fellow men, feel comfortable enough to go to your nearest bar, grabbing a brewski and saying to your bros “So, who do you think has the better triple axel? Patrick Chan or Yuzuru Hanyu?”
