Norway has had some disappointments in cross-country skiing at these Games, leading to finger-pointing at the coaching staff and wax technicians. Disappointments in cross-country skiing, for Norway, looks very much like great success to the rest of us — 11 total medals, tied with Sweden — but when the country failed to win gold in either of the classical relays, it was hailed across the country as one of the great failures in history. Norway takes its cross country seriously. (And the “tied with Sweden” part doesn’t help.)

Saturday, Norway swept the podium in the women’s 30-kilometer mass start. Marit Bjoergen won her third gold of the Games, Therese Johaug took silver and Kristin Stoermer Steira bronze. The wax technicians can probably return home safely now.

Vic Wild, the American-turned-Russian, won his second gold medal in the parallel slalom; Zan Kosir of Slovenia took the silver and Benjamin Karl of Austria the bronze in the final event at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park.

Julia Dujmovits of Austria won the women’s medal in the same event, and a pair of Germans, Anka Karstens and Amelie Kober took silver and bronze.
