Just how powerful is this snowstorm? Enough to bend the will of the U.S. military and White House.

Returning from counter terrorism talks in Turkey, Vice President Biden and his wife were forced divert to Miami due to the snow storm. “They will depart for Washington D.C. as soon as weather conditions permit,” according to a statement from the White House.

Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Ash Carter was similarly diverted and will be stranded nearby in Tampa, Florida, according to the Associated Press. Carter was heading home from a trip to Paris and Davos, Switzerland, where he met with both Afghan president and Iraqi prime minister. His plane couldn’t land at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland so the pilot hung a left instead toward Florida.

Carter’s aircraft, it should be noted, is dubbed the “Doomsday Plane.” The Boeing E-4B weighs 800,000 pounds when fully loaded, according to this Wired article, and can withstand the effects of a nuclear bomb or asteroid blast while remaining aloft for 12 hours without refueling.

D.C. drivers out there take note…not even the doomsday plane is risking it in this weather!
