Emergency dispatchers in south Florida received a call about 7 a.m. Monday reporting that a mannequin was in flames near a craft supply store.

When crews arrived at the scene in Pembroke Pines, however, they didn’t find a mannequin.

Instead, they discovered a human body on fire.

“When the fire department arrived, they realized that it wasn’t a mannequin, that it was actually a human being who was deceased,” Capt. Al Xiques of the Pembroke Pines Police Department told CBS Miami. “They extinguished the fire, and when police arrived, they initiated an investigation into what may have occurred.”

Fox News affiliate WSVN reported that the fire was still burning when firefighters arrived.

Xiques said authorities have not determined whether the male victim was dead before his body was set afire.

Xiques told The Washington Post on Tuesday that authorities are conducting an “undetermined death” investigation. The victim has not been identified, authorities said.
