Crossroads GPS is withdrawing its resources from the Missouri Senate race in the wake of Todd Akin's "legitimate rape" comments, the Washington Post has confirmed. The decision was first reported by Politico.

The Karl Rove-backed outside group has already spent $5.4 million in Missouri and was set to begin airing new ads supporting Akin tomorrow.

Akin has told Mike Huckabee he would not quit the race, but the chorus of Republicans urging him to do so is growing. Along with the chilly words from National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn (R-Texas), Crossroads' move makes it clear that Akin will have little financial support should he stay in the race.
