A subdued and disrupted Republican National Convention officially open opened Monday -- and just as quickly closed for a day, as the day's events were cancelled in this breezy but largely storm-spared city due to Tropical Storm Isaac churning in the Gulf of Mexico.

"It is my privilege to proclaim the 2012 the Republican National Convention in session and called to order," Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said, to cheers from a small crowd of delegates at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

But after a prayer--including for those in the path of Isaac -- and a brief video of presidential candidate Mitt Romney, the group quickly dispersed.
