Clint Eastwood won't be talking about his empty chair routine blasting the president on the last night of the Republican National Convention, and the Obama camp appears content with doing the same. It wasn't addressed in a campaign staff call with reporters earlier today that instead took aim at Mitt Romney's speech. And Obama re-election spokesman Ben LaBolt brushed it off, saying he was "referring all questions to Salvador Dali." But the team's one-picture meme-wagon jumping response last night resonated widely online, as Twitter users were baffled and bemused by Eastwood's rambling.
The campaign account's photo has since been retweeted over 40,000 times. By comparison, its tweet announcing the president's Ask Me Anything on Reddit -- which was also hugely popular online, breaking site records -- only has around 6,200 retweets. Many of the rash of tweets equate #eastwooding with #tebowing or #planking more than Romney or the RNC. But getting in early on the joke probably didn’t hurt the Obama camp.
