Part of Mitt Romney's message in his convention address on Thursday was that President Obama's record has turned hope and change into failure and disappointment. In an interview with Parade Magazine, Obama addresses the question of how he hopes to win back voters who supported him in 2008 but are now disappointed:

Every step we take is designed to strengthen the middle class. For folks who’ve been laid off, one of our big focuses is giving them the opportunity to retrain for jobs that exist right now, which is why we’ve really pushed to make financing for college more accessible for young people but also mid-career folks. All these pieces are helping to strengthen the economy.
