LAKELAND, Fla. -- Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is flying to the New Orleans area today to tour storm damage from Hurricane Isaac and meet with state and local officials, campaign officials confirmed.

Romney will meet with Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) and first responders, and is planning a tour of Lafitte, La., near the Leo Kerner Bridge, according to campaign officials.

Romney will skip a scheduled afternoon rally in Richmond, Va., with vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan to divert to Louisiana.

Romney and Ryan are holding a farewell rally later this morning at the airport in Lakeland before boarding their new branded campaign planes. From here, Romney will fly to New Orleans and Ryan will go to Virginia. The two plan to reunite on Saturday at a rally in Jacksonville, Fla.
