Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) used his address tonight to continue his assault on Mitt Romney for not releasing more tax returns.
Reid, who has claimed without any evidence that Romney didn’t pay taxes for 10 years, called Romney a “tea party ideologue” and said he needs to reveal more than two years of tax returns.
“Never in modern history has a president candidate tried to hard to hide himself from the people he's supposed to serve," Reid said.
"We can only imagine what new secrets would be revealed if he showed Americans a dozen years of tax returns, like his father did,” Reid added, referring to former Michigan governor George Romney. “Mitt Romney says we should take his word that he paid his fair share. His word? His word? Trust is built on transparency, and Mitt Romney comes up short on both.”
But Reid did not repeat his charge that Romney paid no taxes.
