Just hours after Democrats restored language to their party platform Wednesday that states Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) struck out at Republicans already attacking the party for flip-flopping on the issue.
On Israel, "President Obama has been resolute," Schumer said, noting that the nuclear threat from Iran and rockets fired into Israel by Hezbollah from Lebanon are the Jewish state's most immediate threats.
"No president in history has done more to confront these threats," Schumer said. "The president has imposed the toughest sanctions on Iran and provided record amounts of security to aid Israel."
"Republicans always try to paint Democrats as weak on defense," he said. "This time, they can't."
"To those like Mitt Romney who want to take us backwards, let us send a strong message in November. As we say in Brooklyn: Fuhgeddaboutit."
