Rep. Todd Akin (R) is trying to make lemonade out of his lonely position within the GOP, appealing to Missiourians with a page on his Web site that accuses his party's leaders of using the state's voters as "pawns in their game."

The page features odd, twin-like images of Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus and National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn, and even displays quotes highlighting their decision to abandon him.

The Republican establishment withdrew support -- financial and otherwise -- from Akin when he decided to remain in the race to unseat Sen. Claire McCaskill after the uproar over his “legitimate rape” statement last month.

That left many doubting whether Akin could raise enough money to effectively challenge McCaskill -- though he claims to have enough to sustain his ad campaign through November.
