Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan has called the White House response to the attacks in Libya as "slow," "confused" and "inconsistent." But he won't call for the resignation of U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice, who has become a GOP target after telling reporters early on that the attacks appeared to be a spontaneous protest.

Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) has called for Rice's resignation. The White House has defended Rice, saying she was merely relaying the intelligence officials had at the time.
