The Sioux City Journal reports that former South Dakota governor Mike Rounds will announce Thursday whether or not he's running for Senate.

What will he say? Three hints:

1) He's already formed an exploratory committee.

2) State Sen. State Sen. Dan Lederman (R), told the Journal, "Not only is he running, he is going to be our next U.S. senator from South Dakota."

3) He's planning stops in Pierre, Rapid City and Sioux Falls. Generally speaking, when you announce you're not campaigning for something, you only do it once.

Sen. Tim Johnson (D-S.D.) is up for reelection in 2014. But the senator, who suffered a brain aneurysm in 2006, is thought to be a prime candidate for retirement in two years time.
