Senior Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod won his bet with MSNBC's "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough over whether President Obama would take Michigan, Minnesota and Pennsylvania. Yet he will return to the show on Friday, Dec. 7, to shave off his trademark mustache.
Axelrod said a week before the election he was so confident the president was not in danger of losing those states that he would shave his 40-year-old facial hair if Obama lost any of them.
The 'stache was safe -- Obama won all three states by comfortable margins. But Axelrod said he'd shave regardless if the "Morning Joe" crew raised $1 million for epilepsy research. Scarborough announced Thursday morning the campaign had hit that mark through a fundraiser in Boston and donations on SlashtheStache.com.
Scarborough put some stubble in the game too, saying before the election he'd grow a mustache if Obama won North Carolina or Florida. He also renegotiated the terms of the bet and gave $10,000 to kick-start the epilepsy fundraiser, rather than going full-Axelrod.
Axelrod's daughter, Lauren, has epilepsy.
