After thinking on it for a few days, conservative blogger Erick Erickson will not challenge Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) in 2014.
"Were I to run for the Senate, it would be a terribly nasty campaign," he wrote on RedState.com. "I’m not putting my family through that when the best outcome would mean a sizable pay cut in pay and being away from my kids and wife all the time huddled in a pit of vipers often surrounded by too many who viewed me as a useful instrument to their own advancement."
Earlier in the week, Erickson said he'd been approached about the race and was considering a bid. He's become a harsh critic of Chambliss, who was one of the first Republicans to say he would break Grover Norquist's anti-tax pledge.
Chambliss is still considered vulnerable to a conservative primary challenge; former Georgia secretary of state Karen Handel is one of his potential rivals.
