Cory Booker’s food stamp challenge

Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker (D) will live on the equivalent of food stamps — about $4 per day in New Jersey — for one week starting Tuesday after a Twitter exchange  last month over the government's role in the program evolved into a challenge.

The challenge emerged from a back-and-forth with Twitter user @MWadeNC, a North Carolina woman. She accepted Booker's challenge, and has since protected her tweets, telling the Associated Press she received threats since the story was reported but will still participate.
