The Democratic women's group EMILY's List has endorsed New York City mayoral candidate Christine Quinn, an unusual foray into local politics.

EMILY's List rarely gets involved in non-federal races and has never endorsed in a New York City mayoral race. If she wins, Quinn would be the first female mayor of the largest city in the country. EMILY's List president Stephanie Schriock said the group is "ready to shatter the glass ceiling."The group has more than 2 million members. Last year they helped elect Rep. Grace Meng (D-N.Y.) of Queens with a campaign that included sophisticated online targeting

Quinn is the early frontrunner in the race, but Mayor Michael Bloomberg, whose third term will end in December, is reportedly searching to recruit a high-profile challenger. Quinn faces primary challenges from public advocate Bill de Blasio and former comptroller William Thompson.
