After making a dramatic plea for gun control legislation at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Wednesday morning, former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords will meet with President Obama at the White House.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said everyone there was "heartened" to hear Giffords testify and that Obama was "looking forward to seeing her."

Giffords's husband, former astronaut Mark Kelly, also testified at the hearing and will accompany her to the White House.

“Violence is a big problem,” testified Giffords, who was shot and nearly killed by a gunman two years ago. “Too many children are dying. Too many children.”
