First Lady Michelle Obama provided one of the biggest surprises of the Oscars, presenting the best picture award via video from the White House.
Jack Nicholson approached the stage to present the award, but instead handed the spotlight off to Obama on a screen above stage.
"I am so honored to help introduce this year's nominees for best picture," she said.
Obama was already decked out in a Naeem Khan gown for the governors' dinner hosted at the White House on Sunday night.
Someone handed Obama an envelope matching the ones other Oscars presenters used at the ceremony.
"And the Oscar goes to... 'Argo,'" she concluded.
A spokeswoman for the first lady said the Academy approached her about presenting the awards. "As a movie lover, she was honored to present the award and celebrate the artists who inspire us all -- especially our young people -- with their passion, skill and imagination."
