President Obama dined with former president Bill Clinton and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton at the White House last week, the White House has confirmed.

The dinner took place  March 1 — the day the sequester took effect — but somehow the names of the dinner guests did not leak until today, when Politico's Glenn Thrush reported them.

“It was a private dinner that the president and first lady enjoyed with President Clinton and former secretary of state Clinton," White House spokesman Josh Earnest said.

Obama has since reached out to Republicans in an unprecedented way, dining with 12 Republican senators  Wednesday and sitting down with Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on Thursday.

Asked about whether the increased GOP outreach was Clinton's idea, Earnest noted that the president’s bipartisan outreach started before that dinner, including calls to the Gang of Eight a week prior to the dinner and inviting Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) to the White House to discuss immigration.

“This is an ongoing effort," Earnest said.
