On a pleasant spring day, President Obama took the opportunity for a sports double-header Saturday.

After playing nine holes of golf, the president made his way to the Verizon Center to watch the NCAA men's basketball tournament East Region final between Syracuse and Marquette. Obama had not picked either team to reach this round, having put through top-seeded Indiana and No. 2 Miami.

Obama played golf at Andrews Air Force Base with Chicago friend Martin Nesbitt, White House trip director Marvin Nicholson and White House travel advance director Michael Brusch.

After arriving at the Verizon Center, the president was shown on the CBS television broadcast and on the arena's jumbo screen, offering a wave. He was wearing a blue jacket.
