Connecticut passes gun-control bill

Connecticut, the site of the massacre that killed 26 staff and children at a local elementary school in December, has become the third state to pass new gun-control legislation in the aftermath of the killings.

The contentious debate in the state ended late Tuesday with the passage of some of the strictest gun laws in the nation (the state already had some of the toughest laws on the books). Connecticut joins New York and Colorado, the site of the 2012 Aurora movie theater shootings, in passing new legislation before Congress takes up its own bill.
