Anthony Weiner is back on Twitter

Former congressman Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.), who is considering a comeback in the New York City mayor's race less than two years after his errant tweets led to a sex scandal and derailed his political career, is back on Twitter.

Weiner has a new handle -- @AnthonyWeiner -- and sent his first two tweets from it Monday afternoon. Both linked to a policy paper he has written called "Keys to the City: 64 Ideas to Keep New York the Capital of the Middle Class."

Reliable Source has more.

Weiner confirmed in an e-mail to Politicker that the account is his.

“It seemed like a fresh start was in order especially in light of all the new ideas around which I am hoping to drive conversation and debate,” he said.

Within four hours of his first tweet, he already had more than 3,400 followers.

Weiner's old account, @repweiner, still features the tweets around the time of his downfall (though the lewd one that led to his resignation was deleted). It also sent a tweet Monday to its 67,000-plus followers linking to his new feed.
