Former South Carolina Democratic Party chairman Dick Harpootlian says that when he told Indian-American South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) to go "back to wherever the hell she came from," he didn't mean to India.

"She is not from India; she is from Bamburg," Harpootlian said Tuesday on MSNBC. "She's from Bamburg, South Carolina, where she was an accountant in her parents' clothing star called 'Exotica.' And all I'm suggesting is she needs to go back to being an accountant in a dress store rather than being this fraud of a governor that we have."

Harpootlian — no stranger to controversial comments, initially made the comment at a Democratic event Friday night.

“In about 18 months from now, hopefully (we) will have sent Nikki Haley back to wherever the hell she came from, and this country can move forward," he said.

Harpootlian previously compared Haley to Adolf Hitler's mistress, Eva Braun. During the 2008 presidential primary, the Obama supporter compared the tactics used by Hillary Clinton's campaign to infamous GOP strategist Lee Atwater, drawing a red-faced rebuke from Bill Clinton.
