Illinois state Treasurer Dan Rutherford will announce Sunday that he is seeking the Republican nomination for governor in 2014, according to the Associated Press.
Rutherford, who was first elected in 2010, was widely expected to run, but will make it official with a series of public appearances.
Republicans seem to have a good chance of beating unpopular Gov. Pat Quinn (D) is he is nominated to run again, but it remains to be seen whether Quinn will win re-nomination.
If she decides to run, state Attorney General Lisa Madigan (D) would be a favorite in both the primary and the general election. Former White House chief of staff Bill Daley is also looking at a campaign.
