New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's appreciation for Bruce Springsteen's music comes through loud and clear in the governor's new summer playlist, released Monday morning.
Christie released a 14-track playlist on the music streaming service Spotify called "Down The Shore, Everything’s All Right." The title is a lyric from the Tom Waits song "Jersey Girl," (famously covered by Springsteen) which President Obama also quoted during his recent trip to the Garden State to tour the Hurricane Sandy recovery process.
"Jersey Girl" is one of three Springsteen hits on the playlist. ("Backstreets" and "Darkness On The Edge Of Town" are two others.) The governor is an openly enthusiastic fan of Springsteen's music, though the rock star and Garden State native's liberal political views are mostly at odds with Christie's. After refusing to acknowledge Christie, Springsteen gave the governor a hug last fall at a benefit concert for victims of Sandy.
Christie's playlist also includes songs from bands with New Jersey roots like The Gaslight Anthem, Bon Jovi, and Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes. Garden State native Frank Sinatra's "Summer Wind" is also on the list. So is "Let's Get it Started (Spike Mix)" by The Black Eyed Peas.
