With a budget deadline approaching on Sept. 30, the House is canceling a week-long recess scheduled for next week and will reconvene next Wednesday.

The House is scheduled to adjourn for the week this Friday after approving its version of a continuing resolution, then will be back in Washington in time to vote on whatever transpires after the Senate takes up the issue.

House Majority Leader Eric I. Cantor (R-Va.) made the long-expected announcement Wednesday afternoon, saying in a message sent to lawmakers that the House “will remain in session through the week, and possibly the weekend” until Congress passes a short-term budget plan.
