Alex Sink, the Democratic nominee for governor of Florida in 2010, announced Friday that she won't seek the office again in 2014.

Sink made the announcement in an interview with the Associated Press.

Her decision clears the Democratic primary field for former governor Charlie Crist, the onetime Republican who is now seeking his old office under the other party's banner.Crist would face Gov. Rick Scott (R), who narrowly defeated Sink in 2010, in the general election. Scott, whose first term has been a rocky one, is considered a top Democratic target next year.

A June poll from Quinnipiac University shows Crist leading Scott 47 percent to 37 percent.
