Newark Mayor Cory Booker (D) raised $2.85 million for his Senate campaign between late July and late September, his campaign announced Wednesday, an impressive haul that reinforces Booker's advantage in the Garden State campaign.

One of the most prolific fundraisers in the Democratic Party, Booker has brought in $11.5 million since January. He finished the pre-general election fundraising period that ended on Sept. 26 with more than $2.6 million in the bank.

Booker's Republican opponent, Steve Lonegan, raised $1 million between late July and late September and ended the period with $241,000 in the bank, the Newark Star-Ledger reported.

With two weeks left until the special election, polls show the race has tightened, but Booker remains the clear front-runner.
