Republican attorney Bryan Smith raised more than $275,000 from July to September for his campaign to unseat Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho), another sign that Simpson could have a real race on his hands.

Smith has a robust $300,000 in the bank as well as the backing of the anti-tax Club for Growth, which made him its first crowd-sourced endorsement earlier this year.

Simpson has not released his third quarter total yet. He had about $335,000 in the bank at the end of June. Throughout the entire 2012 cycle, Simpson raised about $1.2 million.
