New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) continues to lead Democratic challenger Barbara Buono by a wide margin, according to a new Quinnipiac University survey released Thursday showing the governor up by nearly a 2-1 margin.

Christie leads Buono 62 percent to 33 percent among those likeliest to vote. That's on pace with the previous poll, which showed the governor leading 64 percent to 30 percent late last month.

With less than a month to go until Election Day, there appears to be little Buono, a state senator, can do to to prevent Christie from cruising to a second term.

The two candidates debated for the first time Tuesday night, and will meet once more to debate on Oct. 15.
