Club for Growth backs Sasse in Nebraska

National conservative groups are rallying behind a candidate in the Nebraska Senate race.

The Club for Growth announced Thursday that it has endorsed Midland University President Ben Sasse (R) for the open seat being left by retiring Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.). Previously, the Senate Conservatives Fund backed Sasse.

The club said Sasse, who is experienced in health-care matters, will be particularly adept at helping fight Obamacare.

"Ben Sasse is the rare candidate who can clearly and forcefully prosecute the case against Obamacare, not only because it’s an unconstitutional assault on our liberty, but also because he’s read every word of it," club President Chris Chocola said.

Sasse faces former state treasurer Shane Osborn, the early favorite in the GOP primary, among others.

Democrats are not expected to seriously contend for the seat.
