Former president George H.W. Bush has joined Twitter.
The 41st president, who is 89 years old, drafted his first tweet Tuesday afternoon, sending his regrets that he couldn't make it to Nelson Mandela's memorial service.
Barbara and I wish we could have joined the U.S. delegation honoring President Mandela today. He, and his countrymen, are in our prayers.

Bush has been dealing with health problems in recent years but is still seen regularly -- including his colorful socks -- at important national events.
